Dental Insurance

What Is Dental Insurance?

Dental Insurance is sometime referred to as a dental plan. It is a form of health insurance that is designed to pay a portion of typical costs that are associated with any needed dental care.

It is important to note that dental plans typically do have deductibles associated with them, and most require the deductible to be paid before you receive your treatment. (This will vary depending on your dental provider.)

Most insurance plans also include benefit cap limits which will typically limit how much will be paid for by the insurance company for adult dental care.

Dental Plans Typically Cover:

Dental plans typically (but not always) cover things such as preventative care: exams or cleanings, x-rays, and sealants. They typically also cover a portion of additional benefits such as: LASIK, Orthodontia, treatment for gum disease, fillings, root canals, crowns, bridges, inlays, and dentures.

It is important to note that each dental plan will vary depending on the company and plan you choose. Generally, every policy will differ in terms of which procedures are in which category. They typically categorize procedures into three major categories: preventative, basic, and major. With this, your deductible or out of pocket costs typically are determined by the category the service is in.

If you do happen to need a procedure that may be a little more costly, you will want to pay close attention to your dental insurance policy. For example - If you need a dental implant, then there is a possibility that your dental plan may not cover this. So you will want to look into plans that may cover this service. If you choose a policy that does not include dental implants, then you may have to pay upwards of 3000 - 6000 dollars for the implants, so it is very important to see if this service is covered by your dental plan.

To Break Down The Above Paragraphs, Dental Insurance Can Cover:

  • Preventative Care (exams or cleanings)

It is important to note - that this list does not guarantee that the service above will be listed in every dental plan, and it may be missing some services that are included as well. These are things that we will be able to look into when we go over the plans and benefits.
